ATHENS, Greece

Monday 4th November arrive 0800

Athens is one of the truly great cities of the world. It was the birthplace of democracy and has a history of more than 4,000 years. The city's glorious past is reflected in the classical Parthenon and its ruins on Acropolis Hill. At the foot of the Acropolis is the Plaka, the old quarter of Athens with its colourful narrow streets, bustling souvenir stalls and boutiques, and the delicious smells of the tavernas. There has always been a great affinity between Britain and Greece - many Greeks speak English, and many of the road signs carry English style names of Greek towns. Athens has a great character of its own and is certainly a place that everyone should visit at least once.
